TAS Hazard Perception Test — Free Knowledge Practice Quiz

A free knowledge-based practice quiz covering hazard recognition concepts and the real format of the TAS HPT (based on official Service Tasmania / Transport Tasmania information), built to help learners understand what the test measures before they sit the real thing.

Quick facts about the real TAS HPT

  • 25 video clips — all 25 must be attempted (with either an action or deliberately no action) to complete the test
  • • Taken online through Plates Plus
  • • You click a "take action" button when you judge it safe to act; if no action is needed, you simply let the clip play out
  • • You have 45 minutes to complete the test, though most people finish in around 20 minutes
  • • Novice learners can sit the HPT up to 3 months before their provisional driving assessment date; non-novice learners or those converting an overseas licence can sit it right after passing the learner driver knowledge test
  • • A passing result is valid for 12 months — if you don't pass your practical driving assessment within that time, you'll need to retake the HPT
  • • Required before you can book your Practical Driving Assessment
  • • You do not need to prove your identity to sit the test online
  • • Official resource: Read the official guide on service.tas.gov.au
